A group of Upstate athletes got new gear to help them succeed in the upcoming Special Olympics!

The Finish Line at Haywood Mall donated new shoes to The South Carolina Special Olympics Unified Basketball Team from Greenville.

The players have been practicing since January for the upcoming USA Games in Seattle.

"It was awesome, they deserve them and it's awesome that Finish Line was able to do that for us,” said Coach Brittany Bynum. “The shoes look great. They’re gonna match our jerseys awesome so it's gonna be a really fun time.”

Even the Finish Line employees couldn’t stop smiling.

"It made me feel great to able to help people and see the smile on their faces when they got the shoes and I just know they’re gonna really ball out in them and do good in Seattle,” said Finish Line employee Stratravious Jackson.

The team will be heading out west very soon. Games kick off July 1.

In order to help offset the cost of travel to Seattle the team has started fundraising efforts. Donations can be made to the team, here.
