Stephens County deputies are looking for a driver they say hit a teen, and then fled the scene.

Deputies said the victim, 16-year-old Zoey Dysinger, was struck by an SUV along Oak Valley Road near Abbey Lane in Toccoa, GA early Sunday morning.

Deputies found Zoey lying in a ditch. From there, she was rushed to the hospital.

“It’s really scary because it’s that split-second of thinking, is this is this it or am I going to live,” said Zoey Dysinger.

Zoey said it’s a miracle she’s alive.

“I’m thankful that I’m even alive or even able to sit here and just have minor bruises and sprains,” said Dysinger.

“I was walking on the side of the road. I didn’t really hear the vehicle coming up from behind me or anything,” said Dysinger. “The next thing you know, I get hit and wind up in a ditch.”

Zoey’s dad said it was one of the scariest moments of his life.

“Just witnessing her laying in a ditch was just something I’ll never forget the rest of my life,” said Craig Dysinger.

Deputies are still looking for the driver that hit Zoey.

The teen is pleading for the person responsible to come forward and turn themselves in.

“Please turn yourself in instead of all of us sitting here worrying if this is going to happen again to somebody else,” said Zoey.

Deputies said they recovered a mirror from a green Jeep Grand Cherokee at the scene. They believe the model to be from between 1993 and 1995. If you have seen this car or have any information about this case, contact the Stephens County Sheriffs Office.
