Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an investigation is ongoing after a woman's body was recovered from a creek in Royston, GA last week.

According to the GBI, 28-year-old Amber Brittany Hester was found partially submerged in Hanna Creek on June 8. She was believed to have been dead for several days when she was located.

Officials with the GBI, Madison and Franklin County Sheriff's Offices, Madison County Coroner's Office and Madison County Fire and Water Rescue Team recovered the body, which was later identified at the GBI Crime Lab with fingerprints taken during an autopsy.

Hester's family said she disappeared several days before she was found.

"I'm going to be praying, if someone is responsible for her death, that the person is found and brought to justice," Hester's stepfather, Bobby Smithson said, "I'm not out for revenge but I want simply the truth and justice for her."

Anyone with information on Hester or her disappearance should call Madison County Sheriff's Office at 706-795-6202 or the Athens GBI Office at 706-552-2309.

Hester's family said they will hold a memorial service for her on Monday at noon. The service will take place at Ivie Funeral Home on S. Elm St. in Commerce, GA.
