Leaders in Greenville announced Tuesday that the community has acquired a United Soccer League Division III franchise which is expected to kick off its first season in 2019.
United Soccer League CEO Alec Papdakis said Greenville is an "incredible addition" to Division III and he has no doubt the ownership group "will develop a successful and passionate team for our growing Southeast contingent as we aim to develop regional rivalries across the United States."
Entrepreneur Joe Erwin is leading the ownership group of the team through his company, Erwin Creates. The group is scouting temporary sites for the team's first season but plans to eventually create a first-class soccer stadium.
Major announcements in regards to the team's development are expected to be coming on Facebook.
