Laurens Co. family wants answers in suspicious fatal fire

78 year old Willie Booker was found dead inside her burned mobile home in Gray Court on June 23rd and her family says they want to know what happened to her. The fire has been labeled as suspicious by both the Laurens County Sheriff's office and the Laurens County coroner's office but Booker's daughter Barbara Morgan says after nearly four months she expected to have more answers as to what happened to her mother.

"It's mind boggling," said Morgan. "You wonder what happened and if anybody did anything, who could have done it."

Morgan said her mother didn't smoke and family members that were with her moments before the fire started say she was asleep in her bed, with nothing on the stove when they left her.

"Your soul is just gone," Morgan said about losing her mother. "So if you have your mom stay close to her."

Deputies tell Fox Carolina that SLED is helping with the case and that they are being "thorough" with the investigation. The coroner's office says Booker died from smoke inhalation but says the manner of death is undetermined pending law enforcement's investigation.

Morgan says she will keep pressing investigators until she finds out what happened to her mom.

"It won't bring my mom back," Morgan said. "But it will bring closure."
