The city of Marion has named Bigfoot as its official animal.
Mayor Steve Little said Tuesday that he signed a proclamation just over a week ago. The proclamation comes ahead of the first ever Bigfoot Festival, scheduled for September 8 in Marion.
It will be officially proclaimed ahead of the festival Sept. 8
“It promotes the family atmosphere of just having a good time,” Little said of the festival. “There are some people who believe there is a bigfoot out there in the woods somewhere. There are others who scoff and roll their eyes.”
Below is the official proclamation:PROCLAMATIONBIGFOOT – SEPTEMBER 8, 2018WHEREAS, Bigfoot, often referred to as Sasquatch, is described as an ape-human type bipedal creature that reportedly lives in the forests of the world, often being described as hairy with large eyes, a low set forehead and enormous footprints, with a height of 7 to 10 feet tall and weighing more than 500 pounds; andWHEREAS, reports have been taken over the years of Bigfoot sightings in 49 states, including North Carolina, with Bigfoot in the Western North Carolina region being named the Beast of the Blue Ridge; andWHEREAS, Bigfoot 911 was created in 2014 by John Bruner to pursue professional research in the field of cryptozoology, with the team conducting extensive research in McDowell County, documenting evidence that the team believes suggests that Bigfoot exists in McDowell County and examining the evidence presented and determining what evidence is genuine; andWHEREAS, Bigfoot 911 salutes Bigfoot with the First Annual Western North Carolina Bigfoot Festival in Marion, North Carolina and, with its thousands of followers on social media and hundreds of thousands of views of its social media posts, expects to draw a large crowd of people interested in the subject to Marion, North Carolina; andWHEREAS, the City of Marion welcomes the opportunity to add another festival in Downtown Marion and for people to have a great time while exploring all that our City and County have to offer; andNOW THEREFORE, I, Stephen R.
