A fire is under investigation in Woodruff after a carport caught fire on Sunday night.

The fire started just after 11:00 PM on the 500-block of Irby Street in Woodruff.

Three people were inside the home when the fire started. Residents said they heard a loud boom outside and saw huge flames coming from their carport.

“I seen this big orange flame in the living room window,” said Larry Philson, “I panicked because I was afraid that the whole house would blow up.”

Two cars inside the carport were destroyed, but firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread to the home.

Eyewitnesses said the flames shot high above the house and ashes from the fire landed on cars and houses two streets away.

Three people and their two dogs were inside at the time of the fire. All made it out safely and completely unharmed.

“My mind right then was just focusing on our lives at that time,” said Joseph Godfrey, “That’s more important than anything else because the cars, the house and all of that can be replaced, but our lives cannot.”

The fire is still under investigation by the Woodruff Fire Department. Right now the cause of the fire is unknown.
