Lanes reopen on I-85 North in Greenville Co. after flooding closed all

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for south central McDowell County until 11:45 p.m.

According to NWS, doppler radar indicated a line of thunderstorms moving slowly west across central McDowell County, impacting Marion and the area from Glenwood to Sugar Hill to the area near Pleasant Gardens. NWS officials said the storms were producing rainfall at a rate of nearly 2 inches per hour, also falling on locations already saturated from earlier rainfall.

NWS said the area in the vicinity of Business Hwy 221 on the south side of Marion is also experiencing flooding, especially along Youngs Fork.

As of about 9 p.m., the evacuation of residents was underway in the Currier Court area due to rising water.

The NWS expects additional flooding across the area from Glenwood to Sugar Hill and also east of Pleasant Gardens.
