A man has drowned after jumping from a boat on Lake Keowee Monday evening.

Charles V. King, fire chief for Oconee County, says the call came in around 5:43 in the north end of the lake near the "Party Cove" waterfall.

Callers report the man jumped in to the water and had not resurfaced.

Crews arrived and immediately began searching the water, and he was found within 40 minutes.

The man was later identified as 47-year-old Jody Levi Black, of Easley.

According to the Oconee County coroner, Black was recovered by the dive team around 6:10 p.m. and was provided with advanced life support by EMS.

He would pass away in the emergency room at Oconee Memorial Hospital at 7:14 p.m.

Black's family said he was recently baptized on Mother's Day and that he was a good man.

An autopsy will not be performed, but specimens will be sent to SLED for toxicology analysis in accordance with state law.

Black’s death has been deemed accidental.

He was recovered from an area of water with a depth of about 28 feet, according to the coroner.
