Several people spent the night outside a downtown Greenville shoe store to be the first to purchase new Nike shoes that went on sale Monday morning.

The line of customers formed in the alley near the APB boutique on North Street Sunday.

The first person in line said he arrived at 8 a.m. Sunday. By nightfall, a small crowd had joined him, lining the outer wall of the business with folding chairs and cold weather gear. Shaquille Rolle said he's had to battle some cold weather since then.

"It's been a rough morning, it was a cold Sunday morning, and a cold Monday now, but it's going to be all worth it, it's going to be all worth it."

The determined shoe shoppers are after the new Nike Air Max shoes which are multicolored and made of corduroy.

The shoppers can also get a matching hat if they want.

The shoe shoppers said only a limited number of shoes will be released, so that is why they were willing to wait in line.

The manager of APB Greenville, Cal Williams, explained why the limited release shoe is so popular.

"They (Nike) did a contest last year where these influencers built a shoe and the public voted for it and they brought it to life." He told us the designer, Sean Wotherspoon, gave out pairs of the shoes early and created a lot of hype. "He got a bunch of pairs early and gave them to a lot of celebrities and the celebrities got a lot of people wanting them beforehand. So Nike did a really good job of building the hype for the shoe because now you can see everyone wants to get those exact shoes."
