NOTE: The Greenville Police Department originally identified a man who they said was charged with attempted murder in the case, but police have since issued a correction saying no charges have been filed.

Greenville police said a man was stabbed multiple times early Tuesday morning.

The stabbing happened at a home on Mohawk Drive shortly before 4 a.m.

Police said they arrived to find the 21-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen. The victim was rushed to the hospital.

Officers said a man detained at the scene said the stabbing was in self-defense. No charges have been filed in the case.

Police said violent crime detectives were continuing to investigate and process evidence in the case
