Police: Man charged for having stolen gun after foot chase in Greenwood

Greenville police said officers arrested a man who led them on a foot chase following reports of gunfire early Monday morning.

Police said they were called to Gilliam Court at approximately 2:30 a.m.

They arrived to find two men sitting in a car. When the driver saw police approaching, officers said he got out and started running away.

Police were able to catch the man.

Inside the car, deputies said they found a loaded .45 caliber handgun within the driver’s reach.

The gun had been stolen out of Greenwood County.

Police said Lamarion Dontray Griffin, 21, of Greenwood was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen handgun and failure to stop on lawful command.

“Another great job by our patrol division working to get guns off the streets,” the police department posted of the arrest on their Facebook page.
