A suspect charged with manslaughter (Spartanburg County Detention Center, October 15, 2021)

The woman was identified as 22-year-old Ayla Rhiannon Franklin.

WOODRUFF, SC (FOX Carolina) - Officers have charged the mother of a woman who was found dead in front of a home along Irby Street in August, according to the Woodruff Police Department. 

Heather Wessel has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her daughter, 22-year-old Ayla Franklin, according to the department. 

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger says they found Franklin lying face down and unresponsive outside her home in the yard on Irby Street in August.

Officers said through their work with the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, they began to investigate the case as a homicide.

Wessel was arrested and taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center for a bond hearing.
