The signs are mostly down now from the property that was once known as the Redemption World Outreach Center. Located on the outskirts of the Greenville Downtown Airport, you'll still see signs near entrances welcoming people to the church, but that church now has a new name and will soon have a new lead pastor.
'Relentless Church' is the new name, led by nationally-known pastor John Gray. He's set to take over Sunday, for Ron Carpenter, who started Redemption nearly 30 years ago.
Late last year, Carpenter announced he would be leaving the church to take a post at a church in San Jose, California, in an area that he calls "un-churched."
The process over the last several months has involved removing signage in preparation for the new name, and also preparing parishioners.
FOX Carolina spoke with several who are sad to see Carpenter to go, but are embracing the change to come.
'Relentless' officials said they plan on carrying on Redemption's tradition.
"Over the course of 27 years, something really tremendous happened here. And it's not as if it's not happening anymore, it's continuing," said Darius Trainer, one of the new pastors at Relentless Church.
Wednesday night's services at what is now 'Relentless Church' featured a guide for volunteers on what to expect from the church, and what the church is asking of them in their works in the community.
