Family members confirmed the passing of a beloved Upstate chef this week.

Kenneth Manigault, 54, passed away on Monday at St. Francis Hospital Downtown after suffering from heart complications. He was the gourmet cook behind Chef Manigault's La Vieille Maison on Howe Street, which served the area for decades.

His brother, Terry Manigault, said his death is "a great loss and shock to all of us."

"We're trying to get through it with the faith of God and know that he was more than a chef, he was a servant to the people," Terry Manigault said. "We take comfort in knowing we'll see him again"

He said his brother would give hundreds of toys to children in need for Christmas and trained cooks who wouldn't afford to go to culinary school.

Manigault will be laid to rest after a service at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church. Watkins, Garret and Woods Mortuary is handling arrangements.

A GoFundMe has been set up in Manigault's memory. Click here to contribute.
