SCDC: Woman caught trying to sneak drugs into Spartanburg Co. prison

The South Carolina Department of Corrections said a woman was arrested Sunday after she tried to pass contraband to an inmate she was visiting at the Tyger River Correctional Institution in Spartanburg County.

The SCDC Police Service said Brenda Pearson was charged with attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana.

Per warrants, Pearson was visiting inmate Melvin Thomason and attempted to give him a package containing the drugs.

The package contained 4.1 grams of meth, 16.7 grams of marijuana, and 34.9 grams of synthetic marijuana.
