The Williamston Police Department released an incident report on Tuesday after being contacted about a controversial Snapchat video involving a teacher.

Palmetto High School algebra teacher Lisa Houston retired after video surfaced of her standing on a student's desk and trying to wake him by pulling his hair and pressing on him with her foot.

Many students and parents rushed to Houston's defense, saying her unconventional teaching methods are part of what makes her such a good teacher.

A man contacted police about the video on May 1.

According to the incident report obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request, when police contacted the student involved in the video about the incident, he said Houston was "playing" and stressed she was not angry nor trying to hurt him.

Police said the boy's father also told them he did not believe Houston was trying to injure his son and that he "felt like the incident was done in humor."

At a meeting on May 9, the school board voted to see if a "compromise could be reached" with Houston.

You could feel the shift in mood the second the board announced their decision. For more than a week, students and much of the community hoped she would be reinstated. Many wanted to hear the superintendent give a public apology and then offer Houston her job back, but ultimately those in the crowd said the board's decision led to a lot more questions than answers.

"I want to see Lisa returned if she will accept,” said one in the crowd. “I doubt she will in this district."

"They kept us waiting two and a half answers and we still didn't get an answer," said someone else.

When the decision was announced, audible “boo’s” filled the auditorium. Supporters said they will continue to push for change.
