In a press release on Wednesday, Sen. Karl Allen confirmed he is going to serve as chairman for a subcommittee dedicated to gathering information about the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Allen said the bipartisan group will focus on inmate and employee morale, staffing, contraband and rapid response times.
The first meeting of the subcommittee will be held on Thursday. Other members include Senator Marlon Kimpson of Charleston, Senator Rex Rice of Pickens, and Senator Richard Cash of Anderson, South Carolina.“My condolences go out to all affected by recent events within the Department of Corrections," Allen said. "We hope to encourage transparency and free flow of information necessary to improving the quality of life within the Department of Corrections.
