The teen accused of killing Spartanburg County’s fire commissioner in 2016 was transferred to the Spartanburg County Detention Center on his seventeenth birthday as he awaits trial.

Clayton Jones was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and malicious injury to personal property in the August 2016 killing of George Rush.

Jones’ brother said the teen was high on acid when she shot and killed Rush, his neighbor, in his carport.

Jones, formerly a student at Boiling Springs High School, was 16 at the time of the killing.

Jones was charged as an adult in the killing. He was previously being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
