Another earthquake! This one was in the Upstate Monday evening

The US Geological Survey said a small earthquake was detected near the North Carolina – Virginia border Sunday night.

The 2.0 magnitude quake was detected around 8:16 p.m. with an epicenter 1 mile southwest of Hays, NC.

It was the second earthquake in North Carolina Sunday evening.

The first, a 2.7 magnitude quake, was recorded just before 8 p.m. between Burnsville and Spruce Pine.

Meteorologist Ben Dorenbach said minor earthquakes are common in the Carolinas. He said most people cannot feel earthquakes below a magnitude 4.
