An Upstate hospice patient, who cared for horses for most of his life, was granted a wish on Tuesday – a special visit and one on one with not one, but two horses!

Dr. John B. Martin Jr. is turning 89 next week, and Amy Howard with Providence Care wanted to do something special for him.

Dr. Martin Jr. is currently at Clemson Downs assisted living facility in Clemson, but he grew up raising and caring for horses on his farm off Liberty Highway in Pendleton. He hasn’t been back to the farm in about two years, but he used to have about 60 horses.

Howard went through great lengths to organize a "Best Day" adventure for Dr. Martin Jr. This included bringing two horses from Smiling House Farm to Clemson Downs to pay Dr. Martin Jr. a visit. He got to spend quality time with two beautiful horses, and employees helped him pet the horses and enjoy his special surprise.
