There's a way to see the Greenville area in a whole new light, thanks to a semi-retired pastor with an excitement for all things Upstate.
Mike Cruice started his business Make Greenville Yours with some encouragement from his kids, after overhearing a conversation in a downtown Greenville restaurant between a couple about possibly moving to the area.
Cruice said he told them, "I’m gonna make a strange offer to you. I have some free time, so if you're willing to get in my vehicle, I'll show you Greenville."
They agreed, and Mike showed them around the Upstate. The couple moved to Greer two months later. Once he knew his business idea would work, it turned into reality.
Make Greenville Yours offers tours around Greenville and other Upstate communities to give those thinking about relocating here an up-close and personal look. Cruice said the tours start at Amanda Henry’s Popcorn Parlor and then goes from there.
“We move along through the village of West Greenville, out through Mauldin, Simpsonville, Taylors, Greer, Travelers Rest," he said. "All along the way I'm showing them history and vision and giving them a broad perspective.”
Cruice said, while the tours are a business, he's not trying to get rich. He simply loves people, and his community.
“I develop relationships in the end, and really, bottom line, that’s what it's all about for me. It's investing in people, making a difference in their lives and helping them succeed," he said.
Mike offers several types of tours, including a three-hour driving tour of Greenville and different Upstate communities, and a one and a half hour driving and walking tour of Greenville.
The first will cost you $50 per person and the shorter tour is $25 per person. Mike said anyone is welcome to take the tours, whether you're thinking about moving here or are an Upstate native.
