McDowell County Emergency Management said US 221 North and NC 226 North were reopened Thursday morning after flooding and storm damage closed parts of the highways Wednesday.
NC 226A remains closed due to a mudslide, officials said.
McDowell County Schools and McDowell Technical Community College are operating on a 2-hour delay Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for McDowell County until 10 a.m. Thursday.
The NWS said people living along Lookout Shoals Lake near Carpenters Cove need to pay close attention to alerts from Catawba County Emergency Management as water approaches residential yards and structures.
The NWS also advised boaters, fishermen, kayakers, swimmers, and other lake users to use extremecaution during elevated lake levels and downstream releases.
