Officials with Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said a man has been charged in connection with a kidnapping, rape and robbery in May of 2017.
According to the Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Clayton Joseph Tabor has is accused of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in connection with the incident.
Deputies said they responded to Pelham Medical Center in Spartanburg County the night of May 15, 2017 in reference to a sexual assault report.
According to an incident report, the female victim told deputies the suspect told her his name was Clayton Tabor and that he was 19-years-old. A warrant stated that the victim was kidnapped from the 300 block of Old Furnace Road in Boiling Springs.
Deputies said they identified Clayton Joseph Tabor as a possible suspect and Tabor matched the physical description of the suspect given by the victim.
Tabor then met with a Sheriff's Office investigator at his own request, and denied ever seeing the victim, denied being given a ride, denied engaging in sexual intercourse with the victim and denied that a beer bottle found in his vehicle (identified as evidence) belonged to him.
Tabor consented to a buccal swab being taken, and deputies said the DNA profile from Tabor's swab matched that of evidence found in the sexual assault kit and on the beer bottle.
Based on the DNA match, deputies sought two warrants against Tabor - one for kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.
Deputies said Tabor kidnapped the victim by ordering her against her will to walk into a wooded area, and not allowing her to leave under the threat of harm. Deputies also said Tabor also committed the crime of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree by engaging in sexual battery with the victim under the circumstances where the victim had been kidnapped.
