2 charged after animals found dead inside cages in Union County, deputies say

The Union County Sheriff’s Office said two people have been charged for torturing animals.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Union County Sheriff’s Office said two people have been charged for torturing animals.

Deputies said on Jan. 8, they were called to a home on Old Ferry Road in reference to an eviction. Upon arrival, deputies cleared the house and found two dead snakes, one dead dog and two dogs that were severely malnourished and with maggots inside of their mouths. Animal control was called to pick up the dogs.

The deputy on scene said he found a shed on the property with a small cage that appeared to have three dead dogs locked inside. The dogs had been there for a while and were badly decomposed.

Another dog was found in the backyard severely malnourished. Officials said two dead ducks in a cage and chickens locked up and dead were also found in the backyard.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kerry Lynn Brown and Maquiese Matthew Jones, 45, were identified as the tenants of the property.

Lynn was charged with six counts of abandonment of animals and six counts of ill treatment of animals - torture.

Jones was charged with six counts of abandonment of animals and six counts of ill treatment of animals - first degree.

Deputies said both Lynn and Jones were bonded out and released from jail.
