Presbyterian College makes history, secures auto bid to NCAA Tournament
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - For the first time ever, the Presbyterian College women’s basketball team saw their name on Selection Sunday.
The Big South Tournament Champions, Presbyterian earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where they’ve been sent to the First Four round. They will face Sacred Heart on either Wednesday or Thursday in Columbia with the chance to play No. 1 overall seed South Carolina on Friday or Saturday.
A small school with a big heart, PC is the smallest Division-I school in the country with fewer than 1,000 undergraduates. They finished the season 20-14 with a 60-37 conference championship win over Radford last weekend. They secured 20 wins for the most in program history. A history that started back in 1977 under now Mayor of Clinton, Randy Randall.
“For little old PC to come through and go against all the odds, nobody thought they could do it,” Randall said. “To win like this is just a great thing. You can see the emotion. People are crying, people are laughing, hearts are just overflowing.”
