Broadcasting mogul Harry Pappas, founder of WHNS, passes away at 78

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Harry J. Pappas, a broadcasting mogul who founded WHNS, was laid to rest on Tuesday morning.
Pappas started WHNS, FOX Carolina’s station, in 1984. The channel’s call letters are an acronym for Pappas and his wife: Harry aNd Stella.
He created Pappas Telecasting Companies with his brothers, a privately held commercial broadcast group of more than 30 television stations. He was later inducted into the Broadcast and Cable Hall of Fame.
Pappas, 78, passed away on April 24 in Reno, Nevada. He is survived by wife Stella, to whom he was married for almost 55 years, and their children.
A funeral service for Pappas was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Modesto, California, the city where he was born.
