MARION, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - McDowell County Emergency Services issued an urgent warning to residents around Lake James as severe flooding is expected.

The ground in western North Carolina is already saturated, and Hurricane Helene is expected to bring an additional 10 to 15 inches to the area.

Officials said Lake James is expected to reach 110 feet by Friday afternoon, which is above the full pond elevation.

Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to seek higher ground or stay with friends and family if possible.
