Officials: NC driver turns herself in after pedestrian dies in hit-and-run crash

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a woman has been charged after she turned herself in for involvement in a deadly hit-and-run crash on Wednesday.

SWANNANOA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a woman has been charged after she turned herself in for involvement in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Swannanoa on Wednesday.

According to troopers, a pedestrian ran into the road on U.S. 70 near Cardinal Ridge Drive and was hit by a Jeep Patriot, driven by 25-year-old Caroline Elizabeth Laliberte, around 9:18 p.m.

The victim was identified as 56-year-old Robert Lee Armentrout of Hendersonville.

Officials said Laliberte left the scene but she did notify authorities and met with them to turn herself in. She was placed under arrest and charged with felony hit and run causing serious injury or death.

Highway Patrol said Laliberte was held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $30,000 bond.
