Clouds build Sunday ahead of returning showers
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Showers are on the horizon, but not before we sneak in a mostly dry Sunday.
Mostly clear and cold conditions will be the name of the game tonight. Temperatures will fall from their evening levels in the 50s, dipping to the middle and low 30s by daybreak. We’ll have little in the way of wind, so at least wind chills will not be a significant issue.
Sunday starts with a blend of high clouds and sunshine, so folks headed out for morning mass or early errands will only need to dress for the chilly temperatures. Readings will climb out of the 30s, heading for the upper 40s to mid 50s in the afternoon. Clouds will be on a gradual increase, with skies trending more gray for the afternoon and evening as a storm system tracks east along the Gulf Coast. Despite the clouds, most of us will stay dry on Sunday, but a few upstate locations could encounter some light showers between 8:00 PM and midnight.
Spotty showers will become more numerous overnight Sunday into Monday morning as the system tracks by to our south. Much of the rain will be light and focused on the Upstate and northeastern Georgia, but a few showers could stray north into the mountains before daybreak. Sunday night lows will remain cold in the low to mid 30s.
A few leftover showers will make for some wet spots on the Monday morning commute, but sunshine will make a comeback as cloud decrease in the afternoon. This will kick of a stretch of quiet and gradually milder weather as high pressure settles in Monday afternoon through Thursday. Monday’s highs will top the mid 50s, eventually warming into the upper 50s and low 60s by Thursday. Skies will feature plenty of sunshine, so we’re looking at plenty of opportunities to get outside this week.
A new disturbance will bring our next chance of showers on Friday, although the day does not currently look to be a washout. Even with the added cloud cover and potential for rain, highs will keep warming into the low 60s, setting up continued warming for next weekend.
