Prayer vigil held for young Upstate mother killed, father seriously hurt in crash
Officials said the pair were students at Belton-Honea Path High School.
BELTON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said two students were involved in a crash in Belton Tuesday morning.
According to the coroner, the Belton-Honea Path High School students had just left school on early dismissal after 11 a.m. when a “large bird” jumped in front of their car on Clamp Drive at Ernest Lane.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the two occupants were traveling west on Clamp Drive when they traveled off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected and they traveled off the left side of the road and hit a tree.
Officials said the passenger, 17-year-old Abbigail ‘Grace’ Callaham, was not wearing a seatbelt. She died at the scene while the driver, Thomas Kennedy, was taken to AnMed Hospital in critical condition.
Callaham was an 11th grader and Kennedy is a 12th grader at the high school.
The coroner’s office said both students are parents to a four-month-old baby who they were headed to pick up from daycare.
The school held its annual ‘See You at the Pole’ on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. to pray for the students and their families.

“We talk a whole bunch at Anderson District Two that we are a family, so it’s times like this that we can come together, we can remind each other that this is a support system, love on each other, and just be there for each other,” said Superintendent Jason Johns.
