Officials: Parts of I-40 starting to reopen in western NC
ASHEVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said I-40 and I-26 are impassible in multiple locations.
On Friday, the NCDOT said all lanes of I-40 were closed in between exit 66 near exit 72 in Asheville.
As of Saturday, officials said over 400 roads remain closed in North Carolina. All roads in western North Carolina are to be considered closed.

Multiple mudslides were reported on I-40 on Friday. Officials said there was a mudslide near Old Fort in McDowell County. As of Tuesday, Oct. 1, this part of the interstate has been reopened.

Another mudslide was reported near the Tennessee and North Carolina border mile marker 15. This caused both the east and westbound lanes to shut down in this area.
