Coastal Carolina baseball advances to College World Series Championship
OMAHA, Neb. (WMBF) - A program record 26 straight wins has propelled the hottest team in baseball, Coastal Carolina, to the College World Series Championship.
It’s the first time CCU has made it to the championship series since the magical 2016 run when the team won its first national championship.
CCU wasted no time in this one, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning Wednesday against the Louisville Cardinals, who were coming off a walk-off win over Oregon State in an elimination game
In the fifth, CCU added two insurance runs, bringing the lead to 8-0.
The shut-down Cardinals offense finally got the bats rolling in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs.
But CCU immediately answered in the bottom half with two more runs, putting the score at 10-3.
The seventh inning remained scoreless, and CCU held the Cardinals in the top of the eighth before scoring another in the bottom half.
CCU then shut the door in the ninth to secure its spot in the championship series.
The final score was 11-3.
CCU will start a best-of-three-game series Saturday night against LSU.
