Anderson University responds to student killed, 4 others hurt in crash with 18-wheeler

The coroner said the victim was from Maryland.

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Anderson University officials have provided an update on a crash that left one student killed and others hurt on Sept. 26.

Troopers with Highway Patrol said around 5 p.m. on Friday, a Toyota 4Runner was heading north on White Horse Road when it tried to turn west onto SC 123. An 18-wheeler was heading south on White Horse Road and hit the 4Runner.

Officials said the 4Runner had five occupants who were taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Officials said a 19-year-old passenger in the Toyota, Shane Roberts McVey, passed away on Saturday. His cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death is accidental.

Officials said McVey was from Aberdeen, Maryland. Anderson University confirmed that he was one of their students.

Anderson University’s President, Evans Whitaker, asked for continued prayers for all of those involved in the accident. While one of their students had been released from the hospital, another student and a friend remain in serious condition.

This crash remains under investigation.
