SCHP: Police officer, another driver injured in multi-car crash caused by officer
MAULDIN, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A Greenville police officer was cited for driving too fast for conditions in connection with a crash that injured both the officer and another driver, according to a report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) reported that the crash occurred on I-385 North in Mauldin on Thursday morning.
Officials said the crash happened at mile marker 32. All lanes were blocked for several hours, causing traffic to back up for miles. As of 10:35 a.m., traffic had resumed.
According to the report from Highway Patrol, four vehicles were involved in the crash.
Troopers say that the incident was caused by a Greenville City patrol vehicle that collided with a Ford sedan, causing the sedan to strike a Chevrolet pickup truck. The truck then traveled into another lane, hitting a Volvo tractor trailer, the report says.
The driver of the Chevrolet and the police officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to troopers.
