Becky Hill files motion to dismiss Murdaugh’s lawsuit against her
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Former clerk of court Becky Hill has filed a motion to dismiss Alex Murdaugh’s lawsuit against her.
Murdaugh’s defense team accused Hill of tampering with the jury that convicted him unanimously on two counts of murder. The South Carolina Supreme Court sided with the defense attorneys and remanded Murdaugh’s case back to a lower court for a retrial.
Murdaugh’s defense team then filed a federal lawsuit against Hill in May, which accused her of of violating his right to an “untampered, untainted jury.” It is seeking $600,000 in damages.
Hill filed a motion on Thursday to dismiss the lawsuit and denied many of the allegations in Murdaugh’s complaint.
Her motion contains several arguments, including that Murdaugh cannot seek damages for his defense fees for the original trial.
A date has not yet been set for Murdaugh’s re-trial, but a status and scheduling hearing has been set for later this month.
