Officials: Firefighter injured during response to fire at Upstate boat storage facility

SALEM, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Officials with Oconee County Emergency Services reported that crews responded to the scene of a fire at a boat storage facility that started Thursday morning.

Oconee County Fire Chief Chris Smith said that the call came in after 9 a.m. for an explosion in the area of South Highway 11 at Fall Creek Boat Storage. The fire affected several buildings, all of which are considered a total loss. About 60 boats were damaged.

At least one firefighter was taken to urgent care while responding to the scene, an official with Oconee County Emergency Services reported.

The cause of the fire and where it began are unknown at this time.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Pickens County fire units also responded.
