GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Students are leading a fundraiser this weekend to support parents facing life-threatening illnesses.

Students in the Let There Be Mom ambassador program have handled the recruitment of vendors and sponsors and promotion of the nonprofit’s mission in preparation for the annual Spring Market.

Let There Be Mom helps mothers and fathers create personalized gifts for their children that can be given after the parent dies. The group works with a parent to plan the keepsakes, then connects with artisans who create items such as quilts made from a parent’s clothing.

Jimmy Anderson worked with Let There Be Mom to turn his clothes into quilts for his daughters, who opened a Christmas gift from him after his death, according to the nonprofit. Funds raised through the Spring Market and other events help cover the cost of those services.

One participating vendor, Gold Star Trucker Bar, said the business was started to support a Let There Be Mom mother who was a partner, and it will sell hats at the market, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit.

The vendor shared, “It’s like my son said, ‘We are spreading joy, one trucker hat at a time.’”

The Spring Market is set for Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Simpsonville United Methodist Church and is open to the public.
