USC Upstate softball wins pair of Saturday games to advance to regional final

TUSCALOOSA, A.L. (FOX Carolina) - USC Upstate softball is headed to the regional final in Tuscaloosa after picking up two wins on Saturday.

The Spartans took down Southeastern Louisiana 5-4 in their first game, surviving a late Lions rally for the win. Upstate kept its momentum rolling into the second half of its doubleheader, beating Belmont 10-1.

The victory over Belmont propels the Spartans to their first NCAA regional final appearance in program history. They take on No. 1 seed Alabama at 1 p.m. in Tuscaloosa on Sunday.

Because of the double-elimination format, USC Upstate will have to beat Alabama twice to advance out of the regional. If necessary, the second game is set for 3:30 p.m.
